Balurghat City situated east of the Atrai River. Connected by road with English Bazar (India) and Dinajpur and Rajshahi (Bangladesh), it is the chief distributing centre for the region, trading mainly in rice, jute, sugarcane, and oilseeds. It was declared a municipality in 1951.
Raiganj, also spelled RAYGANJ, a city situated on the Kulik River. An important agricultural-trade and jute-exporting centre, it is connected by road with English Bazar and with Dinajpur (in Bangladesh). Rice milling is an important industry. Raiganj was declared a municipality in 1951 and has a college affiliated with the University of North Bengal. .
