CONNECTIONS:

Howrah is an industrial city on the left bank of river Hooghly and is Calcutta's twin city. Howrah is also West Bengal's second largest city. The two cities are linked by the famous Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu).

Howrah is not a tourist town. However it has three important attractions which can be made a part of a Calcutta tour.

Botanical Gardens

The Indian Botanical Gardens in South Howrah is one of the largest in the world. The Great Banyan Tree has the world's largest canopy and finds a place in the Guinness Book of records. 

The gardens have a variety of trees and shrubs from all over the world.

Adjacent to the B Garden is the Bengal Engineering College which is the state's oldest technical institute. 

Places to see

Howrah Bridge

The Howrah Bridge is probably what symbolizes both Howrah and Calcutta. It is the world' busiest bridge. It connects Howrah Station, one of the country's largest railway stations, to Calcutta.

Belur Math

The Belur Math is the third attraction of Howrah. It is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission.

By Road: Howrah is connected by national highways to the rest of the country.

By Rail: Howrah is one of the most important railway stations to the country with hundreds of trains connecting it to all parts of the country.

LODGING:

Several hotels around the Howrah railway station. However most tourists may prefer to stay in neighboring Calcutta.
